Privacy Notice

Tangent Innovations Ltd · Last updated 26 October 2026

This notice explains how Tangent Innovations Ltd ("Tangent", "we", "us") uses personal information about the people we deal with: clients and prospective clients, suppliers, people who contact us, and visitors to this website. Our staff and contractors have a separate notice, and this notice doesn't cover other websites we link to.

1. Who we are

Tangent Innovations Ltd is the controller of your personal information. We are registered in England and Wales, company number 16448416, and our registered office is 63 Garnet Street, Bristol BS3 3JU. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration number ZC280085.

For anything about this notice or your information, contact Rob Udale, Director, at contact@tangentinnovations.co.uk, or write to us at the address above.

We are not required to appoint a data protection officer; Rob Udale is responsible for data protection at Tangent.

2. What we collect

  • Contact details: your name, job title, organisation, work email address, phone number and business address.
  • What you send us: enquiries, emails, messages and documents, and our notes of calls and meetings. We sometimes transcribe calls to help with notes, and we tell you at the start of the call.
  • Project records that name people, such as reviews, approvals, test records and correspondence.
  • Payment details for clients and suppliers. These are usually company details; for sole traders they include bank details.
  • Website data: when you visit this site, GoDaddy, our website host, automatically records your IP address, your browser and device type, the date and time, the pages you view and the page you came from, partly through cookies (see our Cookies page).

We don't ask for sensitive information about you, such as health information.

You don't have to give us your information, but without it we may not be able to reply to you, work with you or pay you. Some details, such as those on invoices, are required by law.

3. Where it comes from

Mostly from you. We also get it from your colleagues, for example when they introduce you or copy you into project emails; from people who refer you to us; and from public sources such as your organisation's website, LinkedIn and Companies House.

4. How we use it, and why the law allows it

  • Replying to enquiries and preparing proposals: legitimate interests, or steps you ask us to take before a contract.
  • Delivering projects and managing contracts with clients and suppliers: contract, where the contract is with you; otherwise legitimate interests.
  • Invoicing, paying, keeping accounts and meeting tax rules: legal obligation.
  • Keeping in touch with business contacts about our services, for example an occasional email or LinkedIn message: legitimate interests. You can opt out at any time.
  • Asking for feedback and running our quality management system: legitimate interests.
  • Running, securing and improving this website: legitimate interests, and your consent for any optional cookies.
  • Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims: legitimate interests.

Our legitimate interests are running and promoting an engineering consultancy, delivering our clients' projects well and keeping proper records. We don't make decisions about you by automated means, and we never sell your information.

5. Who we share it with

Only when we need to, with:

  • providers who handle it for us under contract: Microsoft (email, files and Teams), GoDaddy (this website and its visitor statistics), Xero (accounts), Airtable (contact and opportunity records) and Granola (meeting notes);
  • associates and subcontractors working on your project, who are bound by confidentiality;
  • our professional advisers, such as accountants, lawyers and insurers, and our bank;
  • HMRC, regulators, courts or the police, when the law requires it.

6. Transfers outside the UK

Some of our providers store or access information outside the UK, including in the European Union and the United States. Those transfers are covered by UK adequacy regulations or by safeguards the ICO approves, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement. Ask us if you would like details.

7. Keeping it secure

Our Microsoft 365 accounts, where we keep most of our records, use multi-factor sign-in. Access is limited to the people who need it, and we keep encrypted backups.

8. How long we keep it

  • Enquiries and prospective clients we haven't worked with: 2 years after our last contact.
  • Clients and suppliers: while we work together, and for 7 years after our last project or order.
  • Project records that name people: 7 years after the project closes, or longer if the contract requires it.
  • Accounting and tax records: at least 6 years after the end of the financial year they relate to; payment entries in our accounting system stay as long as the accounts need them.
  • Website data: as set out on our Cookies page.

When a period ends, we delete the information or make it anonymous.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of your information;
  • correct or complete it;
  • delete it;
  • limit how we use it;
  • object to our using it where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • send it to you or another organisation in a machine-readable format.

Your right to object. You can object at any time to our using your information for marketing, and we will stop. Where we rely on legitimate interests you can also object, and we will stop unless we have compelling reasons to continue, such as a legal claim.

Some of these rights depend on the legal basis we rely on. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To make a request, email us; it is usually free, and we reply within one month.

10. Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we have used your information, please tell us first at contact@tangentinnovations.co.uk. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it and tell you the outcome.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

11. Changes to this notice

We review this notice at least once a year and whenever the way we work changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
